Funding for nurses boosts Australia's clinical trial capacity

Save Our Sons Duchenne Foundation has granted funding to put neuromuscular specialist nurses in every major children’s hospital in Australia. This program aims to increase clinical trial capacity and ensure the best possible standards of clinical care.

Funding was granted to Murdoch Childrens Research Institute in Melbourne last year and Westmead Childrens Hospital in Sydney, and these positions have now been filled.

This new funding allocated from the 2017 Walk to Save Our Sons will put specialist nurses in Brisbane (Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital), Adelaide (Women’s and Children’s Hospital) and Perth Children's Hospital.

Funding these nurses will:

  • Attract more clinical trials to Australia
  • Ensure trials are run efficiently without encroaching on clinical care
  • Provide high standards of coordinated care for those living with Duchenne and their families
  • Provide support to families navigating the complicated Duchenne journey
  • Encourage and assist families to join DuchenneConnect Australia
